Day 23 – Grace

GRACE – often described as ‘God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense’. An amazing lesson I’m learning right now

Day 21 – PLEASE – do YOUR bit!

We woke up early this morning and decided to go for a long walk on the beach. You’ve seen the photos we’ve been posting – the beach here is beautiful!

The past few days have been stormy and thus, the sea has been really rough. Quite a lot of seaweed has washed up on shore, and, to our surprise, so has a lot of rubbish.

We were amazed by how much plastic comes out of the sea on days when the sea is rough. in a stretch of about a mile, we picked up so much plastic that we had to find bins and throw away 3 loads of the stuff.

When we began walking, I would see a random piece of plastic and think, ‘leaving that little piece there won’t make a difference”. Then it struck me that if I picked that piece up, it would be one less piece in the ocean that could hurt the wildlife. I remembered this story that I heard long ago:

One day as a man was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man and the young man wasn’t dancing, but instead he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer, he called out, “Good morning! What are you doing?” The young man paused, looked up and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I guess I should have asked, Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?”

“The sun is up and the tide is going out. And if I don’t throw them in they’ll die.”

“But young man, don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it. You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The young man listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves. “It made a difference for that one!”

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE – whenever you go on holiday, pick up the rubbish on the beach (every little helps…) and don’t leave your rubbish there in the first place. Every piece we dispose of properly will be one more creature that doesn’t choke to death on it.

Day 20 – New prezzie

I went to Beauty College when I was 20 because I’ve always been fascinated by transformation. I remember looking through magazines as a young teen and being fascinated by the ‘Before’ and ‘After’ photos of everyday women having makeovers.

I was amazed at how, with some tools, knowledge of how to use the tools and the willingness to change, someone could totally transform the way they looked.

Ever since then, I’ve spent my life being fascinated by transformation.

So, when my long awaited parcel arrived today, I was so excited!

Looking after my skin is something I take very seriously (you can’t help it if you’ve been to Beauty College), so I’m really looking forward to the results that using a fabulous product brings.

My Favourite … optical illusion of the day

The windows of the Condo have a tinted film on them that helps to filter the bright sunlight that shines in every morning. As I looked out today, I had one of the doors open and one, closed. Look at how clear the definition of the clouds is when viewed through the filter. Cool, isn’t it?!

Question of the day

‘What aspect of your appearance do you really care about and how can you care for it all?’

Day 19 – Learn from those who Succeed

When she’s needed to learn something new, one of the things I’ve always taught Bianca is to find someone who is successful at doing what she wants to learn, and copy them.

It must be one of the most useful lessons I’ve learned. Why try to re-invent the wheel, when you can learn from someone else’s experiences and then use your energy implementing their results and tweaking them to suit you!

I’ve spent my whole day today, learning from a man who is an expert in his industry. He, in turn, learned what he’s teaching, from other experts in the industry. He’s inserted information that he’s learned over and above theirs, added his personal touches and now he’s teaching me.

I agree with John F Kennedy when he says:

‘The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.’

That’s one of the reasons why I love learning from those who are older than me and why I treat them with such respect. They’ve been through more of life than I have and so I’m happy to learn any success principles from them that they’ve tried and tested.

So, I ask you – ‘Who are you learning from and is what you’re learning tried, tested and successful?’

Our air-conditioning in the building has been broken for the past couple of days. Thanks goodness for outside doors and windows that are opposite each other, and a powerful fan!

Day 18 – Reflection! Good or bad?

I must admit to being a highly introspective person. I analyse myself silly sometimes, but I’ve always come out the other side of  ‘Reflection Time’ with a greater understanding of who I am today and thus, who I want to be tomorrow.

There’s a brilliant ‘tool’ that I use to help me to see things more clearly.

I draw a simple table.

Current feelings/circumstances on the one side

The Truth on the other.

By the time I’m finished this exercise, I simply cannot feel ‘down’ any more.

The FACT is that the Truth about you has a way of totally obliterating the lies you currently believe.

The KEY is that you have to choose to see it and believe it and live in it. Simples…

Day 17 – To Daddy’s Everywhere

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.

Day 16 – Six of one; half a dozen of the other

Well, we’re into the second half of our journey today! Even though I’m blogging about the last 61 days of our trip, we’ve been on Sabbatical for a month and a half and we now have a month and a half left.

The first half has been full of adventure, with us staying in 4 different places.

Firstly, we stayed in our 5* timeshare in Orlando for a week. Fabulous luxury at even turn.

Then on to a 2 bed Condo on Sanibel Island. Beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico.

10 days in the ‘Z’ Hotel, South Beach Miami. Right in the middle of the action and over the road from a block of flats with the cheapest one going for over $1,000,000!!!

Slept in our car overnight next to the beach under the Causeway to Hutchinson Island.

How is that for a first month? We’ve had a fabulous time! Bring on the second half!
